Why You Shouldn’t Just Leave the TV On with Kids Around (Japan)

Did you ever wonder about the effects the TV has on your kids mind? Do all those flashing images actually affect them? Or are all those conspiracy theorists just making stuff up to scare you again? In a world that is slowly deteriorating, I would strongly advise you to reconsider your television-viewing habits, especially when kids are in the room.

No One Actually Knows For Sure the Long-term Side Effects of TV

The only recent study I know of by neurologists that studies the effects of TV on the brain was by Tohoku University in 2013. Their study did not come to any conclusive answers as to whether or not TV is harmful for children. One of the only negative things mentioned was that children who watch TV have a lower IQ, but nothing more than that. The debate for this is fierce considering statistics say that over 92% of 1-year-old children in the States have already used mobile devices. That’s right, even though parents don’t even know the effects of TV on the brain, they are willing to sacrifice the mind of a child in the name of fun.

Why Risk It?

If “you are what you eat,” then the brain is what it experiences, and video entertainment is like mental junk food for babies and toddlers.

(Healthy Children, 2016)

It cannot be overstated that traumatizing images have a devastating effect on the human mind and create PTSD. A child is too young to understand the difference between the virtual world and reality, so the ability to distinguish between the two becomes difficult. At the tender age of 1, a child is not even able to put into words what they are seeing! Have you not noticed the increase in violence among children? Even if you are controlling very strictly what your kids are watching, there is also the chance that those very images that they hold so dear, could have devastating consequences later. Look no further than the latest scandals with Beauty and the Beast, or God forbid, a girlfriend for Elsa from Frozen. Are you paying attention?

Japanese Television Glorifies False Gods

Count on Japan, home of Shintoism–the religion of a thousand gods–to bring you more of the demonic than you could ever take in one sitting. Need I mention Pokemon? Dare I mention Youkai Watch? I remember when I was a kid it was Yugio, Digimon, and Sailor Moon. If you are letting your kids get attached to this stuff, it will be that much harder for them to have a close relationship with God. Darkness absolutely hates the light.

Japanese Television Also Has Explicit Nudity During the Day

A while back, I was flipping through channels on mainstream TV during the day here in Japan and all of the sudden an explicit sex scene was before my eyes! What in the world? I wouldn’t let your toddlers flip through channels here. If you can manage it, it’s best to just say goodbye to television altogether. We haven’t had a TV in our house in almost 2 years and I couldn’t be happier. It’s much easier to control what kids watch without a TV in the room.

Closing Thoughts

In closing, let’s take a long hard look at the original 101 on television and all matters:

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. (Psalm 101:3)

I can just watch TV on my phone here anyway when I need to see the news or something, so we are much happier without one!
